THE WRONG PATH
After a long time, Elif and Sinem had finally come together again. They
met at a café overlooking the sea, accompanied by the sound of seagulls. They
sipped their tea as Elif spoke;
"I've been talking about myself this whole time! How have you
been? What have you been up to?"
Elif asked, passing the conversation to Sinem.
Suddenly, Sinem started crying. Elif was shocked, she handed her a
napkin from the table.
-
"What's wrong,
Sinem? Did I say something wrong?"
-
"No, it's not
about you."
-
"Do you want to
talk about it?"
-
"Can a person
make all the wrong decisions in life? I always walk take the wrong path. Every
decision I make is wrong, and I pay a heavy price for each one."
-
"What are you
talking about? Which decision?"
-
"Back when I was choosing a university, I
picked a major I didn't want just to stay with my high school group. By the
third year, the burden of studying something I didn’t like became too much, so
I dropped out. Our group had already drifted apart in the first year. Then, I
thought I'd try again, but I couldn't build the self-discipline to study. I
decided to enter the workforce, but I couldn’t hold down a job. I kept changing
jobs every month, never feeling happy anywhere. While I was drifting along, I
met Mehmet. At first, he made me feel happy. Despite all his negative traits, I
followed my heart. You know what happened next—we couldn't make it work. Now, I
keep telling myself I’ll eat healthy, but I always find myself buying things
that are bad for me at the store. Just like with the big decisions, I can’t
even make the right choices in small matters. Why am I like this Elif?"
Elif waited a little then asked;
-
"When you make decisions,
do you really think them through? Do you analyze whether the choice is right
for you or not?"
-
"Of course I
think, but not much, I guess. I usually just follow my heart."
Sinem froze after her last sentence. She realized how often she used the
phrase following my heart. It was only now that she became aware of it. She
always made decisions at the peak of her emotions. She instinctively chased
after whatever excited her, never stopping to really think. She focused only on
the emotional aspects of her choices but never considered the cost. Had she
ever really made a decision, or was she just acting on her impulses?
Elif continued speaking:
-
"Sinem,
sometimes people mistake following their desires and acting on their impulse
for decision-making. True decision-making requires controlling emotions and
weighing the costs and benefits of a choice."
-
"I never thought
of it that way, Elif. I might have spent my whole life not making real
decisions—just chasing after whims."
Sometimes, emotions can be so overwhelming that a person makes decisions
without thinking. They don’t stop to ask whether something benefits them or
not. They rush in without measuring their capabilities. They don’t consider the
weight of their decisions or the possible consequences. Then, they find
themselves in situations they never wanted—just like a tailor randomly cutting
fabric without measuring and then wondering why the final piece didn’t turn out
right.
In reality, every choice and every step taken in life has consequences.
The Experiential Design Teaching says: Adecision is accepting the cost of what we want, and the best decisions are madewhen our ego and emotions are at their lowest.
The path driven by emotions leads to the wrong way, while the correct
path is the one we take after managing our emotions and weighing the
consequences of our desires.
Experiential Design Teaching is a
science of reality that shapes the future with past experiences. It teaches the
methods that individuals need to solve their problems and reach their goals.
It offers strategies to people who want to be happy and successful with the programs "Who is Who", "Mastery in Relationship" and "Success Psychology".
